One Piece at a Time

A Wilkes homeowner says it's hard to say exactly when his stuff started disappearing. Marty Roberts is in the process of moving into a new house on Somers Road, and he's doing it a little at a time. But he's noticed over the past little while that a number have things have gone missing during the move -- again, a little at a time. But when you add it all up, someone has gotten away with quite a bit of stuff -- about 57-hundred dollars worth of assorted jewelry, tools and yard equipment. And some of it has even more sentimental value. When Roberts reported the theft yesterday, he had located a basement window in his new house that appeared to have been kicked in at some point. A neighbor tells sheriff deputies sometime last week, in the middle of the day, a man and a woman pulled up in a white mini van with blue trim, the woman got out and knocked on the front door, and when no one answered she got back in the van and they left. It's not known if this is before or after the window was kicked in.
Some of the stolen items include a woman's East Wilkes high school class ring, a mother/daughter ring, a vintage diamond ring and other jewelry, along with a lawn blower, weedeater and electric sprayer. Deputies have no suspects at this time.
