The traditionally tax-averse Iredell County commissioners say they’re unlikely to seek two new revenue options recently approved by the legislature.

The General Assembly is giving counties the authority to ask voters to approve referendums raising real estate transfer and sales taxes.

Such increases could help fast-growing counties, such as Mecklenburg and Iredell, pay for new schools and stave off property tax increases.

Mecklenburg commissioners say they won’t seek a real estate transfer tax increase this year, although they’ll consider it in the future. Read more
