News, Wilkes, Wilkes County, Wilkesboro
Just days after Tyson announced it will close the cooked foods plant in Wilkesboro, the company has announced a planned expansion in its hometown of Springdale, Arkansas. Tyson Foods says it plans a $10 million expansion of the Springdale plant, which will add 370 jobs by next summer. 410 jobs are expected to be lost in Wilkes county due to the cooked products plant closure.
Tyson says it will add a deboning operation to a plant in Springdale. Currently, that work is done by an outside contractor. The company will stop operations at the plant for about a week in April to install equipment capable of dealing with larger chickens.
There's no word on whether cooked products workers will be offered any priority in the competition for the new jobs.
