Speedway Marker Dedication Saturday
Save The Speedway and the North Carolina Office of Archives and History will dedicate the North Wilkesboro Speedway Highway Marker this Saturday May 24, 2008 at 2pm. Among those scheduled to attend are North Carolina Senator Steve Goss, North Wilkesboro Mayor George Church, and Terri Parsons.
Opening remarks will be given by Senator Steve Goss and Ansley Wegner of the North Carolina Office of Archives and History followed by the unveiling and dedication of the historical marker by Sen. Steve Goss, Terri Parsons, with members of Save The Speedway.
Hillsborough residents establish scholarship in honor of Doc Watson
BOONE—John L. and Marjorie Idol of Hillsborough and Watauga County have established the Arthel “Doc” Watson Scholarship Endowment for Traditional Mountain Music at Appalachian State University.
Proceeds from the endowment will fund a scholarship to be awarded annually to a full-time student at Appalachian who is studying or displays talent in traditional mountain music. The first [...]
