News, Wilkes, Wilkes County, Wilkesboro

An Amber Alert has been issued for a 4-year-old boy who police say was abducted in Florida and who was in North Carolina as of this morning. A sheriff also said that the man who has the boy has threatened to kill himself and the child rather than to be apprehended. Police seek 45-year-old Robert William Custer and Colin Nathaniel Custer. They say Custer kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and the boy and ended up gagging her until she passed out. When she came to, he and the boy were gone. Custer is believed to be driving a white 1988 Chevrolet conversion van with a Florida tag: Q57-7ZE. Investigators said they believe he is towing a cargo trailer. But Custer claimed to have other vehicles and license plates so he could avoid being caught. The cell phone that Custer is using was pinged at a cell tower in Hendersonville at 10:30 this morning. The child, Colin Custer, has blond hair and hazel eyes and was last seen wearing a gray short sleeve shirt with blue and red stripes, navy shorts and tan shoes with blue stripes.
