What, There Was an Election?

What if they held an election and nobody came? That’s nearly what happened yesterday, as only 290 people went to the polls in Wilkes county to vote in the single statewide primary race. Mary Fant Donnan defeated John Brooks in the Democratic primary for Commissioner of Labor. In Traphill Precinct 1, there just as well have been no election, as no one showed up, according to unofficial election returns form the station. The highest turnout anywhere in the county was in the Brushy Mountain precinct, where 11 of 204 registered voters cast ballots, for a total turnout of 5.39 percent. The most people that showed up were in Wilkesboro precinct 1, where 26 of 1,001 registered voters went to the polls.
