Water Rates Set — For Now — for East Wilkes HS

Ronda commissioners voted earlier this week to lower the rates being paid for water and sewer service at East Wilkes High School. Ronda, according to the state, is the only water system in the county not under voluntary or mandatory use restrictions. Commissioners approved a $10 base rate per month for East Wilkes High and $7.18 for every thousand gallons the school uses. The school hooked up to the system in the final weeks of last school year, so town officials do not know how much the water usage will be. They based their original rate on an estimate that the school would use the same water as 60 homes. After comparing water use at other county schools over the summer, they found the projection was probably too high.
