Tree Falls on Man’s SUV, Trapping Him

Rescue workers had to extricate a man from his car last night near Traphill Road and Yellow Banks Road. It wasn’t due to a wreck, according to preliminary information, but due to a tree that fell due to the high wind. Witnesses say the tree fell right in front of the passenger compartment of the SUV, pinning the man inside. His name and whether he was injured are not known at this time. Power lines were caught in the falling tree, which knocked out power to a number of people in the area. Duke Energy says power lines slapping and falling because of the wind were responsible for thousands of outages in the region, and several hundred at various times yesterday in Wilkes.
