Out of 235 tested samples in North Carolina, two have tested probable for the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu. Channel 12 reports a person in Onslow County and a traveler in Wake County tested probable for the disease. State Senator Steve Goss released a statement today urging his constituents to keep calm and use common sense in response to the treat of the swine flu epidemic. Goss said, “Raleigh health officials have assured legislators that the state has never been better prepared to deal with a health crisis.” Goss reiterated the best way to prevent the spread of the disease is to wash your hands often with soap and water, cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze, and avoid close contact with people who are sick. Governor Bev Perdue issued a statement yesterday saying, “I am in close contact with our state public health leaders. I want to assure the public that North Carolina is fully prepared to respond to any cases of the H1N1 flu virus.”
