College Students in North Carolina say they’re regularly exposed to secondhand cigarette smoke.
The study was done at ten state colleges by researchers at Wake Forest and it found that more than 80 percent of students were exposed to the smoke at least once a week. The Winston Salem Journal reports that the study is the first to provide of high rates of secondhand smoke exposure among U S college students. Mark Wolfson is the lead author of the study. He says quote — “We were really shocked to see that 83 percent of students reported at least some exposure during the previous week. That said, we don’t know if the exposure was at a nuisance level or at a level that might influence health.” He says the remedy is lowering the smoking rates on college campuses needs to be looked at seriously.
