The bank that loaned former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield about $3 million for his home spent more than half of that to buy the property back at an auction on Monday afternoon.
About 25 people showed up to see what would happen to the home and land owned by Mayfield and his wife. His home and property were auctioned on the courthouse steps in Catawba County just after noon.
