When I was a kid, frequently seen around town were mini-license plates on the fronts of cars that read, “Elkin Best Little Town in N.C.” Usually with green lettering and border, the little white plates – about half the size of the North Carolina plates in the back – proclaimed a mighty strong claim about our town.
